Close Reading, Highlighting, and Movement
Motivating adolescents and supporting them as they become proficient readers is a task requiring multiple teaching strategies. In this interactive session, participants will engage in physical movement activities and work in collaborative groups to explore close reading strategies they can use when teaching reading to students. Participants will receive several strategies they can immediately take back to their classrooms to use and share with their colleagues. This workshop has been presented at the Kappa Delta Pi Convocation, the AMLE Conference, and ASCD.

This session is part of the NSD Teacher Showcase, a full-day event where teachers share their expertise. Register for session #6043 in PD Place to attend this day-long event.

Color: What Do You Really See?
We will use the ideas of Josef Albers to look at color and different phenomena behind color.

What we see is often considered reality. Using the ideas of Albers and the different concepts behind color theory we will discover that we don't actually pay attention to everything we think we see.

As a visual artist, it is important to know how people see. This lesson helps us understand the process of seeing.
